
Camphor Bush Oil

Plant:
The camphor bush is native to Zimbabwe, growing in woodland, often on termite mounds, and in riverine vegetation. It is a shrub or small tree up to c.8 m, smelling of camphor and growing at an altitude of 1100-1370m. The creamy-white flowers are borne in a branched inflorescence on the terminal end of the branch. The fruits are covered with fluffy cottonwool-like hairs, and are produced mostly in March to November. These woolly, white fruiting heads are strongly scented and most attractive.
Harvesting:
Our oil is distilled from the fresh leaves and flowers. We train our wild collectors in eco-friendly harvesting to not gather more than 50% of plant material in any wild-collection area in order to allow natural reproduction and maintenance of the ecological balance.
Properties:
The oil has thirty-eighty identified components constituting and it is dominated by monoterpenes, (80.86%). The main constituents are fenchol (15.86%), 1, 8-cineole (14.27%) and a-terpineol (13.21%). The oil showes broad-spectrum anti-fungal and antibacterial activity.
Uses:
Our camphor bush oil has many different uses such as in aromatherapy or for cosmetics and dermatological products ( a soothing, anti-irritation, decongestant remedy for sensitive skins, dermatitis, sunburns, bedsores as well as antiseptic skin cleanser and for anti-acne products, foot & leg creams, anti-dandruff & psoriasis). It is also used as natural preservative, insect repellent or for eco–friendly disinfection. Its medicinal properties are used to treat the respiratory system (coughs, bronchitis) as well as the immune system (colds, fever, flu).
