Plant:
Lemon Bush or Fever Tree is an erect woody shrub of up to two meters in height and is multi stemmed. The leaves are hairy with noticeable veins. The plant has highly aromatic leaves, which give of a lemon smell when crushed. It is said to be one of the most aromatic of Southern Africa’s indigenous shrubs. The small cream flowers can be found on the shrub from summer to autumn in some areas and in others are produced all year.

Harvesting:
Traditional wild collection is done by our women collectors by cutting fresh tender leaves, and sometimes mature browning leaves, by hand or using a blade.

Properties:
The major components are myrcene, myrcenone, ocimene, carvone, piperitenone, linalool, (E)-tagetenone, (Z)‐tagetenone, and β-caryophyllene (6,10).

Uses:
The many uses of this wonderful essential oil make it suitable for aromatherapy as well as cosmetic and medicinal products: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, anti sprouting agent, analgesic, bronchitis treatment, and insect repellant.
