Names: Colophospermum mopane (Benth.) J. Léonard, Copaifera mopane J. Kirk ex Benth., Hardwickia mopane (J. Kirk ex Benth.) Breteler, Iphane (Ndebele), Mopane (English), Mopani (English), Mupane (Shona), Musharu (Shona), Turpentine tree (English)
Plant:
The Mopane tree grows in hot, dry, low-lying areas in the far northern parts of southern Africa. The tree only occurs in Africa. Its distinctive butterfly-shaped leaf and thin seed pod make it easy to identify. Traditionally it has long been used for building houses and fences, as railway sleepers and for flooring. Its seeds are crushed and then steamdistilled to get the precious essential oil.
Harvesting:
The seeds are sustainably collected from the wild by our well trained wild collectors. Enough seeds are left to avoid overharvesting.
Properties:
Mopane seed oil has a wide composition of terpenoids and a viscosity that gives it a resinous character similar to pine oils. The major components are alpha pinene, dihydrogrindelaldehyde, limonene, caryophyllene oxide, isovebascosides and 3-carene.
Uses: Our 100% pure essential Mopane oil has antifungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anticancer, diuretic, and antimalarial properties. It can also be used as a bronchodilator and as an insect repellent.
Quantities:
We sell our Mopane Oil in any quantities required from 50ml up to bulk. Shipment can be done worldwide.
